Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 4 large ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for brushing

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients together. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush each slice lightly with olive oil. Toast in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy. Alternatively, you can toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a grill.
  3. Once the bread slices are toasted, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread. Serve immediately while the bread is still crispy.

Notes

Choose ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Fresh basil is essential for aroma. Toast the bread well to prevent sogginess. For a variation, add diced mozzarella or a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
