Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. This helps the skin get extra crispy. Season lightly with salt and pepper if desired.
- Arrange the drumsticks on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they're not touching each other. This allows for even cooking and better browning.
- Bake for 25 minutes without any sauce. This initial baking time helps render the fat and crisp up the skin.
- Remove from oven and brush generously with BBQ sauce. Return to oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the sauce is caramelized.
- For extra crispy skin, you can broil for the last 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
Notes
Choose a thick BBQ sauce for better caramelization, don't add sauce too early to prevent burning, always check internal temperature reaches 165°F, and let chicken rest 5 minutes before serving for juicier results.
