Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium-low and continue cooking for 15-20 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until onions are soft and golden brown.
- Add balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, salt, and water to the skillet. Stir well and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the liquid has reduced and onions are glossy and deeply caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined – be careful not to overmix.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about ¾-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up during cooking.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F). Lightly oil the grill grates. Place turkey patties on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- During the last minute of cooking, place burger buns on the grill to toast lightly. Remove burgers and buns from grill.
- Place each turkey patty on the bottom bun. Top generously with balsamic caramelized onions and your favorite burger toppings. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
Don't overmix the turkey mixture to keep burgers tender and juicy. Use a meat thermometer to ensure burgers reach 165°F for food safety. Caramelized onions can be prepared up to 3 days in advance and refrigerated. Add cheese during last minute of cooking for melty perfection.
